PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea is located in the Gulf of Guinea and is organized in two regional divisions: the Continental Region and the Island Region. 

The Continental Region is bordered on the north by Cameroon, on the east and south by Gabon and on the west by the Gulf of Guinea. The island of Corisco also belongs to this area. The continental capital is the city of Bata.

The Island Region is comprised by the island of Bioko, where the island capital, Malabo, is located, and the island of Annobon.
 

SURFACE AREA AND DISTRIBUTION

The total land surface area of Equatorial Guinea is 28,052.46 km², which are distributed as follows:

•      Island of Bioko 2,017 km²

•      Island of Annobon 17 km²

•      Continental Region 26,000 km²

•      Island of Corisco 15 km²

For administrative purposes, the country is divided in seven provinces: Annobon (San Antonio de Palea), Bioko Norte (Malabo), Bioko Sur (Luba), Centro Sur (Evinayong), Kie-Ntem (Ebebiyin), Litoral (Bata) and Wele-Nzas (Mongomo). 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

A.  United States citizens:

•    Citizens of the United States do not need a visa to enter Equatorial Guinea, but they must fill out two visa request forms and send two passport      photos.

•      If the trip is for business, they must also present a letter from the company indicating the nature and duration of the visit.

•     If the stay is for more than ninety days, they must obtain a permit from the National Police Office in Malabo or in Bata and have sufficient funds to show that their expenses in Equatorial Guinea are guaranteed, or present a work contract.

•      Also, they must have a valid passport and proof of vaccinations against small pox, yellow fever and cholera.

B.  All others:


In order to obtain an entry visa to Equatorial Guinea, citizens from all other countries must present to the Embassy:

•      Original and valid passport. Photocopies are not accepted.

•      Two requests forms duly filled out and signed and a passport photo with each form.

•      A check or postal money order in the amount of €100, non-refundable, as request fee.

•      Certificate of criminal record.

•      Vaccination against yellow fever is mandatory and those against malaria, cholera, typhoid fever, hepatitis and tetanus-diphtheria are recommended.

•      If the trip is for business, they must also present a letter from the company indicating the nature and duration of the visit.

•      If the trip is for tourism, it is advisable to consult it in the Embassy in order to obtain a tourism card that it provides.

CURRENCY AND CREDIT CARDS

Current currency. The currency in effect is the CFA franc. CFA franc (CFAfr) = 100 Cents. The bills are in denominations of CFAfr 10,000, 5,000, 1,000 and 500. The coins are in the denominations of CFAfr 500, 100, 50, 25, 10 and 5. The country is part of the French Monetary Area.

Credit Cards.Only some banks admit checks or credit cards, thus it is advisable to consult our entity or the corresponding Embassy about the possibility of transferring money in case it is necessary.

There is no restriction on the importing and exporting of currency.
