Head of State Head of State holds audience with United States delegation A senior North American delegation led by the Interim Defence Secretary, John Tata, began a short official visit to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea on Saturday 9th January, when they had a meeting with the Head of State, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, in the Ambassadors' Hall.

The main reason for this official trip by the North American mission to Equatorial Guinea was to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two Governments, with emphasis on the Defence and Security sectors.

During their conversations, the Equatoguinean Head of State, in addition to welcoming and wishing the illustrious guests a pleasant stay on Equatoguinean soil, also expressed his concern regarding the attack on the Capitol, in which four people lost their lives. Along those lines, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo expressed his confidence in North American democracy to find a solution to the problem.

For his part, the interim Defence Sub-Secretary, Anthony Jean Tata, was full of praise for the welcome and hospitality reserved for himself and his group, and congratulated Equatorial Guinea for leaving level 3 with regards to Human Rights.

In the presence of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Simeón Oyono Esono, National Security, Nicolás Obama Nchama, External Security, Juan Antonio Bibang Nchuchuma Esomoyo, National Defence, Victoriano Bibang Nsue Okomo, Health, Diosdado Vicente Nsue Milang, and other members of the Government such as the Ambassadors from the two countries, among others, Anthony John Tata and H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo also focussed their talks in matters such as the fight against maritime piracy and the Coronavirus.

In honour of this courtesy visit, which will mark a fresh impulse in relations of cooperation between the two countries, a banquet was organised within the People's Palace complex, while following at all times the protective measures imposed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The United States Delegation mission concluded their visit on Sunday with the presentation of sanitary material sent by their Government, according to official sources.

This was the first visit of 2021 by a senior delegation of the Washington Government.
