News Doctors from New York and La Paz Medical Center perform operations to implant knees and hips The La Paz Medical Centre of Bata from May 23 to 27 performed several operations to implant knees and hips in 25 Guinean patients who have come in the last days to traumatology centers at this hospital. These operations demonstrate once again that La Paz is at the forefront of these interventions.

The operations were carried out by a team of doctors from New York who collaborate with the physicians of the La Paz Clinic of Bata, an initiative launched with support from Biomet, one of the world's largest companies in the sector for implants and prosthetics. Operations were performed in the new operating room recently installed in the center.

For 10 days the team of doctors, nurses specialized in operating rooms, anesthesiologists with over 25 years experience in 13 hospitals in New York, performed complicated operations on patients of different sexes who suffer ailments in the knees and hips, whose solutions in previous years were settled by evacuating these patients abroad.

The operations, performed with high-tech material, have a duration of one to two hours. With just one week of hospitalization, the patients will proceed to the stage of physical therapy to slowly adapt to walking.

"The La Paz Hospital is capable of complex operations," said Dr. Alon Stamler, Managing Director of this Clinic, where he expressed his satisfaction"with the good progress that is achieved every day in this hospital and that is in the framework of the policy outlined by President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo in his desire to ensure the health of Equatorial Guineans."
