Luciano Osa Viri “Lucianito”, new Ambassador of the FIFA for the World Cup Germany 2011
The ex-soccer player of the national team and of various local and Cameroonian clubs has been named as Ambassador of the FIFA in charge of Equatorial Guinea in the championship that Germany will host this summer.
The appointment took place yesterday, Tuesday, in the headquarters of the FEGUIFUT, under the leadership of the President of the institution, Bonifacio Manga Obiang. The responsibility of “Lucianito” will be to ensure and watch over all the needs that the sports expedition from Equatorial Guinea may have, “to guide the entire expedition in a majestic event such as this involves dedication”, said Bon Manga in this regard.
He pointed out that Luciano Osa Viri, 41 years of age, native of Esasom Nkum-Ekieñ, district of Evinayong, is one of the few soccer players that have put his stamp on Equatorial Guinean soccer. He began to play soccer at nine years of age; he formed part of the teams Estrella Roja (1982); Real X Balompié (1983), with which he went up to the first division; in 1984 he moved to the Deportivo Reyes of Bata. From 1985 to 2003 he played on the national team, standing out in the UDEAC Cup. After a long stay in Spain, outside of the sports context, he returned to the country in 2009, and began his career as Coach in the Atlético Malabo team, which this year managed to ascend to the Gold division.
Luciano Osa Viri, very well known as “Lucianito”, is married and father of four children. In statements to www.guineaecuatoriapress.com, he also recognized that his new responsibility as Ambassador of the FIFA will not permit him to fully exercise his duties as Head Coach of Atletico Malabo.
